Lieutenant-Commander Cameron is being tested tested by his men, tested by the war and now tested by the weather.

When his destroyer, Caithness, is hit by a typhoon he is forced to make hard choices.

His choice to save a Japanese man washed onto the Caithness by the storm pays off, however, when it uncovers proof of Cameron’s suspicions.

Somewhere out in the ocean, British prisoners of war are being shipped from Singapore to Rangoon and sold into slavery in the Burmese jungle.

It’s only when he finds that slave ship that he realises the consequence of his actions.

With the British POWs on board, can Cameron risk attacking the ship?

As the two ships face each other in a gripping showdown, Cameron’s choices come to mean more than he could have imagined.

Praise for Philip McCutchan

‘McCutchan’s tightest, most inviting plot.’ - Kirkus Reviews

’A first rate adventure series.’ - Publishers Weekly

This book was previously published as Cameron's Troop Lift.

Philip McCutchan (1920-1996) grew up in the naval atmosphere of Portsmouth Dockyard and developed a lifetime's interest in the sea. Military history was an early interest resulting in several fiction books, from amongst his large output, about the British Army and its campaigns, especially in the last 150 years.

I always enjoy McCutchan's Cameron novels, as much for the British naval slang as the plots. Always learn something new.
This example is a bit of a misnomer, as Cameron is not the POW, but a Japanese merchant sailor is. The POW plays an important role in the story line, but it would have been interesting to expand upon his character. I did thoroughly enjoy this book.

I have enjoyed all of the books about Donald Cameron written by Phliip McCutchen, he's done a very good job writing this WW2 series in my opinion.
good read
Enjoyed it
Philip McCutchan's novels of the British navy during WWII are always enjoyable!
Engaging naval war stories
A very good book about a man who at least I, did not know very much about. Probably one of the very important leaders during the Second World War.
I've enjoyed all of the Donald Cameron books and regret that I've now read them all. There books are very good reads for those interested in the sea and ships. McCutchan does a good job developing many of the characters on the ships he writes about; much better than in most war novels.
Wish there were more of these to read.
